What are Microgreens?

Big on nutrition and flavor, microgreens are tiny, delicate greens that add color, texture and flavor to a variety of foods.

Microgreens are young vegetable greens which are typically grown from 1-3 inches before they are harvested. Microgreens fall somewhere between sprouts and baby leaf vegetables. They have an intense aromatic flavor and a concentrated nutrient content. Microgreens come in a variety of colors and textures, they can vary in tastes ranging from neutral to spicy, slightly sour or even bitter. Generally speaking, their flavor is considered to be strong and concentrated.

Since their introduction to the Californian restaurant scene in the 1980's, microgreens have steadily gained popularity. These aromatic greens, also known as micro herbs or vegetable confetti, are rich in flavor and add a welcome splash of color to a variety of dishes. Despite their small size, they pack a nutritional punch, often containing higher nutrient levels than more mature vegetable greens. This makes them a good addition to any diet.
